What Happened?

• Rifle High School’s baseball team fell victim to a pair of big innings against Glenwood Springs on Tuesday, falling to the Demons 8-3 at the Glenwood Springs Middle School baseball field. Rifle catcher Wyatt Robinson hit a two-rum home run in the top of the sixth inning to pull the Bears within five runs, but Rifle could come no closer. The loss followed the Bears’ 6-1 loss to Class 3A WSL contender Basalt in Basalt on April 25.

• Grand Valley High School’s girls soccer team extended their school-record winning streak to 10 games on April 25 with its 10-0, mercy rule victory against Rangely. Senior striker Ashlynn Speakman upped her goal-scoring total to 29 on the season with a pair of goals. The victory, following Coal Ridge’s 4-0 win over Roaring Fork on Tuesday, secured no less than second place in the Class 3A Western Slope League standings and a spot in the Class 3A state playoffs for the second consecutive season.
