A suspected arson fire caused considerable damage to the front entrance of Rocky Mountain Liquors, 1735 Railroad Ave., early Monday morning, Oct. 21.

As of late December, no arrests had been made, and Police Chief John Dyer said they were awaiting test results of evidence from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Dyer said officers responded to an alarm triggered by broken glass at 2:49 a.m. on Oct. 21 and found the front of the store fully involved in fire. Fire crews from Colorado River Fire Rescue responded and quickly extinguished the blaze before it could spread beyond the doorway entrance. No injuries occurred.

“Gas cans were present, so the fire is being investigated as an arson,” Dyer wrote in an email to The Citizen Telegram.

Store owner Linda Trujillo said shortly after the fire that she had no idea who might have started her business on fire.

“I was out of town when it happened,” she added.

Trujillo also said she had not recently dismissed any workers who might have had a grudge.

“All my employees have been with me for years,” she added.

Trujillo noted her 20th anniversary operating Rocky Mountain Liquors occurred Nov. 1.
