3-Rivers All Stars still alive in tourney

FRASER – The Three Rivers 13-14 year-old All-Stars are still in contention for the Junior Boys state title. But, they have to win today’s game against Eagle to reach Tuesday’s championship game.

The All-Stars recovered from a 5-1 first round loss to Air Academy of Colorado Springs in the double-elimination tournament on Saturday with a 5-0 whitewashing of the Northern Lights All Stars from Boulder on Sunday.

Kyle Raaflaub of Carbondale limited the Boulder team to three scattered singles in separate innings, with 10 strikeouts to kept Three Rivers alive in the tournament.

“He was on fire today,” said Three Rivers manager Dan Chicoine of Raaflaub’s effort on Sunday.

Raaflaub never allowed a Northern Lights runner to get beyond first base in the complete game, seven inning victory.

The Three Rivers pitcher also got plenty of support offensively. Overall, Three Rivers pounded out 10 hits.

The All Stars scored twice in the fourth inning, breaking a scoreless tie.

Tucker Hinchliffe led off the inning with a double, and scored two hitters later on Jake Kinney’s basehit. Kinney scored Three Rivers second run on a RBI single by Connor Rakowski.

They added to the lead the next inning when Zack Zerbato scored on a bases-loaded error after opening the frame by beating out an infield single.

Three Rivers raised the score to 5-0 when Beau Chicione and Hitchliffe scored on Northern Lights errors.

If Three Rivers wins today’s game, it sets up a rematch against Air Academy for the state title on Tuesday.
