4 Demons earn lacrosse all-conference honors

Although the 2017 season was a difficult one for the Glenwood Springs Demons boys lacrosse team, four standout players earned 4A Western League All-Conference honors for their performances on the field for the young Demons.

Senior attacker Ben Liotta and senior defender Zach Niccoli, as well as senior goalie Joe Liotta and junior attacker Zach Johnson were named to the 4A Western League All-Conference team at the Demons’ year-end banquet last week for the 4-9, 2-8 Glenwood squad.

Ben Liotta, a powerful, net-front presence for Glenwood, finished the year with a team-high 34 goals in 13 games, adding two assists. His brother Joe finished with 108 saves on the year, finishing with a .475 save percentage for the Demons.

Niccoli, a four-year starter for the Demons who played a key role defensively for Glenwood this season, Niccoli finished with 36 groundballs won, 16 interceptions, 9 take aways and two assists., while Johnson put up another big year, playing mostly up top in the attacking zone or behind the net.

The junior, who earned All-State honors last season, finished with 25 goals and 31 assists for a team-high 56 points.
