140 racers compete in Heathen Challenge at Sunlight Resort

More than 140 racers tackled 4,769 vertical feet Sunday at Sunlight Mountain Resort outside of Glenwood Springs. There were four divisions – cadet (under 18), adult recreation, adult pro, and adult masters. The event serves as a US Ski Mountaineering Association Team qualifier.

There was a sprint race Saturday. Overall winner of the Saturday event was Cam Smith, who finished with a time of 3 minutes, 11 seconds. Top female was Sierra Anderson, finishing in 4:08.

On Sunday, the top finisher was John Gaston with a time of 1 hour, 56 minutes, 45 seconds. Top female was Jessie Young with a time of 2:26:48.
