A busy week for Defiance

Joelle Milholm
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. ” This weekend will be very busy for the Glenwood Defiance rugby club.

The squad not only has to take the pitch against 2006 Mountain Rugby League Champion Vail on Saturday, but then it has to do it again on Sunday.

Defiance will host Vail at Glenwood Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday, then both teams agreed to a makeup game on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Vail.

“We decided that if we are going to do it, we might as well do it that way because we are all equally tired,” said Glenwood veteran Tim Swanson. “There’s no advantage.”

Glenwood, which is 1-3 in the MRL this season, and Vail, which is 2-1, are very familiar with each other. The teams have joined forces twice this year to play in the Cow Pie Classic and the Ski Town Tournament ” both in Steamboat Springs.

Now Vail and Defiance will be lined up against each other and Glenwood will be looking for its first win since defeating the Aspen Gentlemen on June 23.

“They are beatable this year,” Swanson said of Vail. “That would be a big win.”
