Annual Cheatin’ Woodchuck Chase set for Aug. 3

The Rifle Recreation Department is hosting the Cheatin’ Woodchuck Chase, which is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3.

The 5-mile run and 2.3-mile fun run will serve as the final stop for the Colorado River Valley Charity Race Series. The course will run through the White River National Forest and through Rifle Mountain Park. The 5-mile race will begin at 9 a.m., with shuttle busses from the Rifle Fish Hatchery to the start line leaving from the Fish Hatchery parking lot at 8:10 a.m.

Race-day registration runs from 7 to 8 a.m. Participants are asked to allow 40 minutes of travel time from Rifle to the race site, as the course will be on gravel and dirt road.

The preregistration entry fee is $15 prior to July 26, and it increases to $20 after July 26. Prizes will be given to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers in each age and gender category, with more awards given to the overall male and female winners of the 5-mile race.
