Annual Emily Johnson soccer tournament set for June 6 to 8

The sixth-annual Emily Johnson Play it Forward 3-on-3 Soccer Tournament takes place the weekend of June 6-8 at Gates Soccer Park on the Spring Valley Campus of Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs.

The annual tournament honors the passion of Emily Johnson, a Coal Ridge High School soccer player and team captain who was killed in an ATV accident in November of 2008. All proceeds support three scholarships given to local high school seniors in Johnson’s name.

The Emily Johnson Play it Forward All Star Exhibition Game will be June 6, featuring the all-Western Slope League Class 3A and 4A high school players. Boys will play at 5 p.m., with the girls following at 7 p.m.

The 3-on-3 tournament play begins 8 a.m. June 7 and continues through June 8 for under-8 to U18 boys and girls teams as well as co-ed adult teams in both recreational and competitive divisions. Cost is $150 per team, or $25 per player, and each player receives a goodie bag and a T-shirt.
