Gunnison overpowered Coal Ridge with a 24-point fourth quarter, lifting the visiting Cowboys to a 58-53 boys basketball win Saturday afternoon.Coal Ridge (9-10 overall, 4-10 Class 3A Western Slope League) entered the final frame with a 35-34 lead, but Gunnison turned up the heat from 3-point range and the free-throw line in the fourth, hitting three from the former and 7-of-7 from the latter.Skyler James led the Titans with 19 points, followed by Eric Schmitz with 12 and Andy Smedra with nine.

Roaring Fork improved to 14-0 in Class 3A Western Slope League play with a 41-25 win over Aspen at Carbondale on Saturday.The Rams finish the year as WSL champs and await their postseason fate, which will be determined by CHSAA’s seeding committee this afternoon.

Rebecca Roeber scored 23 points and Nikki Smeins added 11 as Roaring Fork rolled Aspen 54-35 in girls basketball action on Saturday.The Rams closed the Class 3A Western Slope League slate at 7-7 while improving to 10-10 overall.Heather Sebald and Celeste Comings threw in six points apiece for Roaring Fork.
