Area golfers continue

ARVADA – Jenny Hughes and Jacy Reynolds will have early starts at today’s second round of the Class 4A state high school girls golf tournament at West Woods Golf Course.

The two area golfers, who shot 97 and 100, respectively, at Monday’s opening round of the 36-hole tournament are among the first to tee off in the field of 72 prep golfers.

Hughes, currently tied for 29th with Shayna Godfrey of Fleming, starts at Hole No. 1 at 8:09 a.m. Reynolds, in a five-way tie for 36th place, tees off from Hole No. 10 at 8:18 a.m.

Regina Rodriguez of Fort Morgan is the current leader after firing a three-over par round of 75. She is three strokes ahead of Denver Mullen’s Kelly Burke and four up on Sarah Ruybalid from Pueblo South.

Burke had a round of 78 on Monday. Ruybalid shot a 79.

Kristen Walla of Aspen carded the best round of Western Slope golfers on Monday. Walla, who shot a 84, is tied for seventh with Estes Park’s Dawn Shockley.

Erin Sterkle and Charly Hoehn, both from Eagle Valley High School, are tied for 10th place after identical rounds of 87.

The top ten individual totals after 36 holes receive state medals.
