Area grid teams move down in polls

Key games with top 10 football teams playing one another last week have caused a major shake-up in the current state ranking, so far as area grid teams are concerned.

Rifle’s 35-31 last-minute loss to Class 3A No. 1 Palisade dropped the 4-2 Bears to No. 5 in the Denver Post poll and No. 7 in the Rocky Preps rankings.

Palisade is the state’s No. 1 team in both prep polls.

Likewise, Roaring Fork’s 28-19 upset loss to Gunnison dipped the 5-1 Rams to No. 9 from No. 2 in the 2A RockyPreps poll and the No. 10 spot in the Denver Post’s state rankings.

Glenwood Springs, which suffered a 33-20 loss Friday to Moffat County (No. 3 Rocky-Preps, No. 4 Denver Post), remains the No. 10 team in Class 3A in this week’s Denver Post poll.

In other RockyPreps state polls, released Monday, Roaring Fork has moved up to No. 9 in the Class 3A volleyball poll from last week’s No. 10 ranking, and Basalt holds steady in both the 3A boys soccer and girls cross country top tens.

The Longhorns are No. 2 in the latest soccer poll and No. 4 in the girls cross country rankings.
