Area prep golfers score well

Another tournament and another win for Basalt golfer Jim Knous.The Longhorn fired off a round of 71 at Conquistador Golf Club in Cortez to earn another individual title this prep season. Knous’ teammate Connor Rakowski shot a 77 to help Basalt finish second overall behind winner Montrose, which shot a 232 in the 16-team tourney.Rifle finished high in the team standings by teaming up to hit a 241. Shawn Cruise was the lowest-scoring Bear as he carded a 76.Glenwood hit a 253 as a team, led by Jason Whiting with a 77.Max Frank turned in the lowest score for Roaring Fork, shooting a 91. Daron Parker followed with a 93 and Arick Zeigel rounded out Roaring Fork’s top three with a 103.Individual and team placements were unavailable at press time.Roaring Fork be off until in tees off in the Rifle Invitational at Rifle Creek Golf Course on Tuesday, while Glenwood and Rifle will compete today in Durango.Coal Ridge shoots 295 at VailGrand Valley golfer Kaleb Bell shot a 90 to lead all area players in the Battle Mountain Invitational at Eagle-Vail Golf Club on Wednesday.The Coal Ridge boys were led by Todd Scott and Jonathan Roessler who tied with rounds of 98. Kyle Simonson also squeezed through 18 holes at one stroke under 100.Battle Mountain won its home tourney with a 241 team score and Eagle Valley finished second with a 258.Individual and team placements were unavailable at press time.Coal Ridge will be back in action today to play in the Eagle Valley Invitational at Cotton Ranch Golf Club in Gypsum. Grand Valley will next hit the links when it plays in the Rifle Invitational at Rifle Creek Golf Course on Tuesday.
