Some 46 local boys and girls from Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, New Castle, Silt, Rifle and Basalt participated in the annual Hershey youth track meet Wednesday at Glenwood Springs High School.

Boys event winners in field events were Collin Schreider, Ryan Buchanon, Greg Orosz, Brenden Heitzman, Kevin Hartman and Wyatt Israel. First-place field event girls winners included Rachel Orosz, Ericka Arensman, Melissa Buchanan, Jenna Brown, Kylar Lundin and Natalie Whitmore.

Mike Mills, Vinson Marr and Schreider won two running events each in the boys meet. Additional boys running winners were Garrett Brown, Wyatt Israel, Kellen Fockler and Ryan Buchanan.

Hope Whitman, who runs for the Glenwood Springers summer club track team, won the 13- 14-year-old girls 200 and 400 meter dash. Other girls with first place times in running events included Aubrey Wolfe, Rachel Orozo, Sabrina Dodero and McKenzie Hill.

All first-places advance to the Hershey Colorado state meet on June 25 in Fort Collins.

The 33rd annual Vail King of the Mountain open beach volleyball tournament for doubles teams runs Friday through Sunday at Vail’s athletic field.

The tournament offers 19 separate divisions from junior teams 14 and younger through seniors. As part of the program, a free juniors doubles clinic is set for 12:30-4:30 p.m. Friday.

There is no admission charge for spectators.

The Hogback Hustle, a 5K run, a benefit for Roaring Fork Outdoor volunteers, is Saturday, July 9.

The race, part of the 2005 Burning Mountain Festival, starts at the New Castle Family Fitness Center parking lot, winders around Castle Valley Boulevard to Seventh Street, back to Main Street, then finishes at Burning Mountain Park.

Starting time is 8:30 a.m.

Entry fee is $15 prior to race day. Registration forms area available at the Family Fitness Center, 820 Castle Valley Blvd., New Castle, New Castle Town Hall or online at http://www.newcastlechamber.org.

A late fee of $5 applies to participants who register on race day.

All Star adventures will conduct day and overnight skateboarding camps for beginning and advanced skaters at Carbondale’s skateboard park.

Day camps will be June 23-24, June 27-28, June 29-30 and July 20-21. Overnight camps are July 19-22, July 23-26, Aug. 10-13 and Aug. 13-17.

The Rifle Sportsmen’s Club is holding a 3-D bowshoot beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the archery range behind Rifle High School off the Rifle bypass. Look for signs. Information: 625-9115.
