Tennis and Tonic is backAfter a two-week hiatus, the Tennis and Tonic community tennis mixer plans to make up for lost time, said organizer Sue Geist. Tonights event will be the biggest and best of the summer, said Geist. The mixer, open to all skill levels, begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Community Center and runs to 8:30 p.m. Men are asked to bring refreshments, and women can bring hors doeuvres. The cost is $4, and no reservations are required. Just show up and meet other tennis players in a fun and friendly environment. Information: 384-6301; 948-7084.Roan Cliff Chaos set for Saturday, SundayThe Roan Cliff Chaos weekend of mountain biking begins Saturday morning. Saturdays cross country mountain bike race will take place at the Bureau of Land Managements JQS area. The BLM-permitted race features a couple of tough climbs, some nice downhills and plenty of desert hazards to keep the chaos factor up, according to the Web site. The race begins at 8 a.m. and offers expert, sport and beginner divisions.For those who prefer going vertical (up, not down), the Chaos hill climb is set for Sunday at 8 a.m. on the JQS road to the top of the Roan Plateau. The climb covers 2,600 vertical feet in 7 miles. The entry fee is $25 for one race, or $35 for both. Information:; 625-2151.Basalt Recreation offers sports campsBasalt Recreation and Basalt High School boys basketball coach Mike Green are teaming up to hold a basketball camp July 25-28.The morning camp from 9 noon is for third through fifth grades, and the afternoon camp from 1-4 p.m. is for sixth through eighth grades. The cost of the camp is $90 and includes a T-shirt and refreshments. A soccer mini-camp for kindergarten through second grade will be held July 27-29 at Arbaney Park. The cost is $35.For a longer skills camp, Basalt Rec. offers the B-Unit Skillz Camp July 18-22 for kindergarten through fourth-graders. The cost is $45.On Aug. 26 there will be a soccer clinic with the Colorado Mountain College Eagles Soccer Club for players ages 8-18. The cost is $50 and includes a CMC Eagles Soccer T-shirt. Information: 927-2851.SuperBowl Golf Tournament FridayThe New Castle SuperBowl 2005 Golf Tournament is slated for Friday at Lakota Canyon Ranch Golf Club in New Castle.The format is a four-ball scramble, and the cost is $440 per team. The registration fee includes a golf cart, shirts, hats, goody bags and a barbecue at the SuperBowl following the tournament. The field is limited to the first 18 teams. Information: 984-2739.
