Steve Knous of Basalt scored a hole-in-one on the Par 3, 181 yard, Hole No. 6 at the Ironbridge Golf Club in Glenwood Springs on Friday, Aug. 18.Witnessing the shot were family members Jim and Marty Knous along with playing partner Mark Johnson.

The second annual Longhorn Stampede, a 5K race in Basalt, is slated for Saturday, Aug. 27. Registration for the race will be from 7:30-8:20 a.m. on race day, with the race starting at 8:30 a.m. from Basalt High School. Proceeds from the event benefit the Basalt High School cross-country program.Information: Ron Lund, 927-3324.

Registrations are being accepted for the annual Jack Smith benefit golf tournament on Saturday, September 17 at Rifle Creek Golf.The format is a two-person best ball event. Entry fee is $90 per team.Prizes will be given for the best gross and net scores. Proceeds from the event go to the Jack Smith scholarship, which benefits students at Rifle High School.Information: Tad Holloway, 625-1093.



The Glenwood Springs Soccer Club is accepting registrations from players ages 4-7 for the upcoming fall season. Registration forms can be picked up in the front lobby of the Glenwood Springs Library or by contacting the soccer club at 945-6091.

Glenwood residents Mark Stripp and Terry Kramer, representing Mountain Craftsman Cabinet and All About Wood Cabinet & Millwork, respectively teamed up with Daniel Schacht of Lafayette to win the annual American Woodworkers Institute golf tournament at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver.The winning threesome earned the honor by finishing three strokes under 46 other teams.
