Kendra Turza had eight blocks, and teammates Katlynn Bintliff and Emmy Moeller contributed with four blocks each in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-15) nonleague loss to Class 5A Fruita Monument at home Tuesday.

The Bears (0-10 league, 0-15 overall) resume volleyball league play today when they host Eagle Valley.

Pat Bennett recently scored a hole-in-one during a round of golf at the Glenwood Springs Golf Club Course in west Glenwood. Bennett shot the ace with a six-iron on the 151-yard, No. 8 hole.



Witnessing the shot was playing partner Ron Wilson.

The Carbondale Recreation Department will hold a Men’s drop-in open gym night from 7-9 p.m. starting Thursday, Oct. 20, at Carbondale Middle School. Fee is $5 per-person and is limited to a maximum of 24 players.

Blind triathlete Nancy Stevens, with her guide Nancy Reinisch, took first place in the Women’s Visually Impaired division at the ITU short-course world championships, held recently in Honolulu.

According to USA Triathlon, the two Glenwood Springs residents are the first all-woman blind and sighted duo to participate in the event.

Another local resident, Susan Griffin Kaklikian, finished fourth in the women’s 50- to 54-year-old division.

The Glenwood Springs High School boys soccer team, currently is in second place in the Class 4A Western Slope League standings, not third as it appeared in Wednesday’s edition.

Barlow, Perkins win 42nd Sopris Runoff 14-miler

The 50th Carbondale Mountain Fair last weekend included the 42nd running of the Mt. Sopris Runoff 14-miler and its companion 4-Mile Fair Run foot races after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
