Registrations are being accepted for the annual Thanksgiving Day 5K run at the Glenwood Springs Golf Club on Nov. 24. Cost is $5 per runner. Race-day registrations start at 9 a.m. with the race scheduled for 10 a.m.

The Defiance volleyball club will hold a final registration along with a placement practice for players Sunday at Glenwood Springs High School.
Practice for eighth-grade and younger girls is 8-10 a.m. The session for players ninth-grade and older is 10 a.m. to noon.
Paperwork along with a copy of the individual’s birth certificate must be turned in as part of the registration process.

The Basalt Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its Youth Instructional League basketball program. Cost is $65 per player for the third/fourth-grade and fifth/sixth-grade leagues.
Play starts Jan. 9 with games scheduled for Sunday nights. The recreation department is also seeking volunteer assistant coaches.
The 14th annual Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race will take place Sunday, Dec. 11, at Sunlight Mountain Resort. The 8K race will begin at 10 a.m. and wind through Babbish Gulch on Sunlight’s cross country trials. Awards and a prize drawing will follow the race. Whether participants run or walk, snowshoes are required for all racers.
Preregister at Summit Canyon Mountaineering for $20, or register day of race at the Sunlight day lodge beginning at 9 a.m. on Dec. 11 for $22. The cutoff for preregistration is Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. Registration includes a long-sleeved T-shirt and a goodie bag. Proceeds will benefit the animal shelters of Garfield County (CARE, Mid-Valley Animal Rescue and Rifle Animal Shelter).

ASPEN ” The Forest Service would like to invite all backcountry skiers and snowboarders to the annual Backcountry Awareness Forum in Aspen from 6-8 p.m. Friday Nov. 18, at the “Ballroom” of the Little Nell Hotel.
The event is hosted by the Aspen Ranger District, Aspen Ski Co., Pitkin County and the Roaring Fork Avalanche Center.
