Area Sports briefsFormer Demon named National Club Tourney MVPFormer Glenwood Springs High School baseball player Thomas Ahrens helped the Colorado State University baseball team to a national title after the Rams won the National Club Baseball Association World Series late last month in Bradenton, Fla.Ahrens didn’t allow a run over 12 innings on the mound during the tournament and shared tournament most valuable player honors with teammate and fellow pitcher Andrew Abell.Colorado State defeated North Carolina State 8-1 in the championship game.Glenwood Recreation accepting softball registration
The Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for men’s, coed and women’s softball leagues. Thursday competitive, Monday D-comp, and Tuesday D-rec will be offered for men. A Tuesday D-rec league will be offered for coed teams and a Wednesday competitive league will be offered for women.All games are played at Two Rivers Park and Sayre Park. League play begins Monday, July 19, and lasts eight weeks. The season ends with a single-elimination tournament. Team fees range from $325 to $400. All fees are due by Friday, July 2. Information: Andy, 384-6318.Tennis and Tonic slated for June 30The Tennis and Tonic adult social hour is scheduled for June 30 from 6-8 p.m. at the Rippy Tennis Complex at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.The monthly event offers an opportunity to meet other tennis players and work on your swing. It is free and open to the public 21 and older.
Junior golf camp to be held in GypsumGYPSUM – The Cotton Ranch Golf Club will conduct instructional camps for junior golfers, ages 5-15, twice this summer.Instruction will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 20-Aug. 12 at the golf course.The 5- 6-year-old camp is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Sessions for 7-11-year-olds is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Instruction for 12- 15-year-olds is from 1-2:30 p.m.Cost is $65 for 5- and 6-year-olds. Fall soccer registration openCARBONDALE – Boys and girls ages 6-14 interested in playing for the Carbondale Soccer Club in the fall can pick up registration forms at the Recreation Department office located at Carbondale Town Hall or from the soccer club.Information: 704-1838.Soccer camps coming to areaTwo Major League Soccer camps for ages 6-14 will be conducted at Glenwood Park from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the weeks of July 19 and August 9.Cost is $100 for the Major League Soccer Camps.
