Golden Eagles baseball, a competitive summer program for varsity-level high school baseball players, will hold an informational meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Grand Vista Hotel in Grand Junction.

The annual Elks Lodge youth basketball Hoop Shoot contest for boys and girls, ages 8-13, will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Glenwood Community Center.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. for ages 8-9, followed by the older age groups.

Approximate contest times are 11:30 a.m. (8-9 year olds), 12:15 p.m.

(10-11) and 1 p.m. (12-13). All contestants must bring a birth certificate. Basketball or nonspiked athletic shoes are required.

Separate divisions for boys and girls are set by each child’s age as of April 1, 2006.

Participants get a total of 25 free throws. Trophies will be awarded to the top three overall scores in each division. Boys in the 8- to 9-year-old division and all girls use a regulation girls-sized basketball.

Boys and girls in the 8-9 division also have the option of shooting from a line four feet inside the regulation free-throw line.

Divisional winners advance to the district competition on Jan. 28 in Glenwood.
