Area Sports Briefs

Skiers and snowboarders, ages 7-12, are invited to register for the 2006 Sunlight Ski team’s Buddy Warner Program Saturday at the Sunlight Mountain Lodge.

Newcomers are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m. to register.

The program is designed for intermediate level skiers and snowboarders looking to improve their skills through training and racing. Club members participate in small groups with volunteer adult coaches from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at Sunlight.

Community skaters and hockey players can use the Gus Darien outdoor ice rink, located on County Road 100, daily until 10 p.m. Ice skate rentals, along with broomball sticks and ball and hockey sticks and pucks are available at the staffed warming hut, weekdays from 4-8 p.m. and 2-7 p.m. on weekends. In conjunction with the rink’s opening, a free community ice skating party will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday.
