Grand opening of Silt ballfield ThursdaySILT – The grand opening and dedication of the new Stoney Ridge Ballfield in Silt will be at 5 p.m. Thursday behind Roy Moore Elementary School.EnCana Oil & Gas USA will present a large check and give out 150 baseball caps, according to Sherry Williams of the Silt Recreation Department.The field will be open to the public for use by both the school district and community ball teams.”This is a community project to give the kids more opportunities,” Williams said. “We’re really trying to make it a community fun thing.”The dedication ceremony will include snacks and drinks , along with acknowledgments and thanks to those who have helped fund the field.Information: Sherry Williams, 876-2353.Tennis and Tonic on tap todayTennis and Tonic, a mixed doubles tennis and social event at the Glenwood Springs Community Center, is slated for 6-8 p.m. today.The event is free and open to adults older than 21. Participants are asked to bring drinks or light snacks to share with others. Individuals without partners are welcome and will be matched with tennis partners.Information: Kathleen, 384-6301.Aspen Yacht Club Regatta slated this weekendThe Aspen Yacht Club is hosting its 36th Annual Regatta Saturday and Sunday at Ruedi Reservoir. Classes expected to compete in the regatta include: J22, Santana 20, Ultimate 20, PHRF A and B, C-15, Laser and Portsmouth. Spectators are welcome, as well as anyone interested in racing or joining the club. Organizers expect more than 50 sailboats in the various classes.This year’s regatta will also host the District 23 Laser Championships.Races start at 11:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Those interested can call the district office at 384-6000 or Larry Black at 384-5766.Roan Cliff Chaos coming up this weekendRIFLE – The Roan Cliff Chaos mountain bike race is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Bureau of Land Management’s JQS Trail. The cross country race is slated for Saturday and the hill climb is on tap Sunday. Both races start at 8 a.m. The fee is $25 per race or $35 for both.
