The Carbondale Recreation Department is offering Tchoukball on Wednesdays through Dec. 13 from 7-9 p.m. at the Carbondale Middle School Gym. Tchoukball is played with two frames which are situated at both ends of the court. The object of the game is to throw or shoot a ball at a metal frame so that it lands over the line. There is no defense involved in this game. Ages 16 and up are encouraged to try out this new game. Sign up at the Carbondale Recreation Department. Cost is $45 per person. For any students or adults ages 16 & up who would be interested in playing badminton on Monday nights starting Oct. 30 from 7-9 p.m. at the Carbondale Middle School, games will be conducted by the Carbondale Rec. The Glenwood Springs Park and Recreation Department is now accepting registration for seventh- and eighth-grade girls intramural basketball. Practices and games will go from Nov. 1 through Dec. 7. Participants will be divided into teams and assigned a volunteer coach.Each team will practice one to two times a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will play six games on Saturdays at the Community Center. Cost is $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. There will be a $5 late fee for registration turned in after Oct. 23.Information: 384-6301.
The GC Xtreme is seeking interested students, ages 8-12, to join their newly formed squad for the 2006-07 competitive season. New members will be accepted through Saturday, Oct. 28.Practices are held 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays at the Glenwood Community Center gymnasium and 1:30-3 p.m. Sundays at Coal Ridge High School. To join, students must live in Garfield County, bring a copy of their birth certificates and commit to attending all scheduled team practices and events for the current season.Information packets, including equipment and other fees, will be distributed to new students and their parents at team practice.Information: 945-8515, Ext. 16630.

Registrations for the Carbondale Recreation Department’s basketball instruction program for first and second grade students are now being accepted. Cost is $30.Practices at held at the Crystal River Elementary School, West Campus gym. Girls practice from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays. The boys practices are the same time Wednesdays. The weekly program begins Oct. 30 and runs through Dec. 6.Deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 27.Information: 704-4116.
