Sarah Brusig, Rifle High School’s starting shortstop, was selected to play in the 2006 Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State Softball Game. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Christopher Field in Westminster.Brusig helped steer Rifle to a 16-6 regular-season record and a share of the Class 4A Western Slope League pennant. In 2006, the Bear senior hit .352 and led the team with a .636 on-base percentage with 19 runs batted in.

Snow wreaked havoc with the Glenwood Ice U13 girls soccer team’s trip to the Front Range last weekend. Slated for a pair of games, the Ice had its Saturday contest against the Broomfield Blue Blast canceled due to wet field conditions. Sunday in Arvada, the Ice lost a 3-1 decision to the Arvada Edge Black. Hope Whitman scored Glenwood’s lone goal nine minutes into the second half.

Glenwood Springs High graduate Amber Sutherland recorded a team-high 24 kills in the University of Colorado women’s volleyball team’s 3-1 victory over Texas Tech last Saturday in Boulder.The victory raised CU to 7-4 in the Big 12 Conference and 11-7 overall.



In Monday’s Post Independent story about Grand Valley High School’s Class 1A Western Slope League football championship, it was left out that Meeker is tied with Hayden for second place in the conference. Both teams have 5-1 WSL records and face each other Friday. The winner of the game will finish second in league and earn an automatic spot in the state playoffs, while the third-place finisher will be eligible for a wild-card spot.
