The Carbondale Recreation department is now taking registrations for its adult, four-person coed volleyball league. Games are Monday nights at Carbondale Middle School starting Jan. 8. Deadline date is Friday, Dec. 29.Fees are $200 per team. A mandatory captains meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Carbondale Town Hall.Information: 704-4115.
The 15th annual Day of Infamy snowshoe race is Sunday, Dec. 10. The 8K race starts at the base of Sunlight Mountain’s cross country trails and winds through Babbish Gulch.Preregistrations at a fee of $20 are being accepted at Summit Canyon Mountaineering in downtown Glenwood Springs through race day. On race day, fees are raised to $22. The University of Colorado will host first- and second-round NCAA volleyball matches at the Coors Events/Conference Center on Thursday and Friday. The Buffs are making their 16th tournament appearance in 21 years. Colorado (16-11) will take on New Mexico State (33-3) at 7 p.m. on Thursday.The other matchup features Colorado State (20-9) and defending NCAA champion and No. 6 overall seed Washington (25-4) at 5 p.m. The winners of Thursday’s first round meet Friday at 7 p.m. for the right to advance to NCAA Regional competition in Seattle the weekend of Dec. 7-10.
New Castle Recreation will be hosting open gym starting Dec. 2 for basketball players 18 and older every Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Riverside Middle School. Information: 984-3352.
