The Grand Junction Volleyball Club is co-hosting a tournament with the Defiance Volleyball Club (Glenwood Springs) Jan. 13-15 (Martin Luther King Jr. weekend) at Coal Ridge High School. It is currently called the Friendship Tournament and is one part of a six-tournament series. The other five tournaments will be held at Mesa State College in Grand Junction.Information:

Weather permitting, the ice rink, located at Gus Darien Arena in Carbondale, is open to the public. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Skate and hockey stick rentals are $1. The rental hut is open from 4-8 p.m.Information: 963-0923

Anyone interested in staying in shape in the winter by going for group runs, should meet at Independence Run and Hike (995 Cowen Drive) in Carbondale at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday mornings.The group runs anywhere from 3-10 miles each Saturday. To get on the e-mail list, e-mail to 704-0909

Men’s open gym drop-in basketball sessions take place every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Carbondale Middle School. The fee is $5 to play until 9 p.m., with a maximum of 24 players allowed per night. Information: 704-4116
