Weather permitting, the ice rink, located at Gus Darien Arena in Carbondale, is open to the public. Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily. Skate and hockey stick rentals are $1. The rental hut opens from 4-8 p.m.

New Castle Recreation is hosting open gym for basketball players 18 and older Saturdays from 7-9 p.m. at Riverside Middle School.

Glenwood Springs High School is in need of an assistant track and field coach to begin in the spring of 2007.

Anyone interested in staying in shape in the winter by going for group runs should meet at Independence Run and Hike (995 Cowen Dr.) in Carbondale at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday mornings.

The Grand Junction Volleyball Club is co-hosting a tournament with the Defiance Volleyball Club (Glenwood Springs) Jan. 13-15 2007 (Martin Luther King Jr. weekend) at Coal Ridge High School. It is presently called the Friendship Tournament and is one part of a six-tournament series. The other five tournaments will be held at Mesa State College in Grand Junction.
