The Glenwood girls soccer team earned its second win of the season on Wednesday, downing Eagle Valley 3-2 in Eagle.

The Demons move to 2-0-1 with the win and will be back in action on Saturday in a non-league game against Grand Junction Central at home at 10 a.m.

There will be a horse challenge game show at the Garfield County Fairground in Rifle on March 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Ranch at Roaring Fork, a par-3 course in Carbondale, is opening shop for the spring season on Saturday.

The New Castle Recreation Department is bringing four-time Division I undefeated national college wrestling champion and Olympic gold medalist Cael Sanderson to its annual Gladiator Wrestling Tournament at Coal Ridge High School on May 5. All business owners and individuals who would like to help offset the cost and receive advertising and good publicity may contact the NCRD at 984-3352. This is a tremendous opportunity for our valley’s youth and adults alike. Cael is known worldwide. He will be signing autographs, issuing awards, and conducting a wrestling clinic during the tournament.

Sunlight Mountain Resort will host Spokes on Snow, a dual-slalom mountain bike race down Dotsero with jumps, berms and rollers on March 24. With amateur, pro, women’s and under 18 classes, it’s time to dust off the studded snow tires and get those mountain bikes ready for mud season.

The race will be held at 10 a.m. Registration is on March 23 from 1-3 p.m. in Sunlight’s Guest Services department and on March 24 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. in Sunlight’s lodge. Practice will be held on Friday from 3-5 p.m. (weather permitting) and Saturday from 8-9:30 a.m. Registration is $20 for pro competitors and $15 for all others. A cash purse comprised of $5 from each registration fee will be given to the race winner.


The 17th Annual Race for the Cure in Aspen needs chairs for the following committees: sponsors, volunteers, registration, silent auction, raffle, side events, cheering, water stations and more. The race is set for July 21.

The Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for adult co-ed and men’s softball leagues.

Competitive D, D-comp and D-rec leagues will be offered for co-ed and competitive and D-comp leagues will be offered for men. Team fees range from $375 to $400.

All games are played at Two Rivers or Sayre Park and league play begins on April 9. The season lasts 10 weeks and caps with an end-of-season tournament.

The registration deadline is March 30. A manager’s meeting is scheduled for April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Community Center.

The Battlement Mesa Men’s Golf Club will kick-off its 2007 season on April 4 at 8 a.m. There will be 26 scheduled events for the season, all of them taking place on Wednesday mornings. Dues will be $50 (handicap fee of $25 included), to be paid on or before April 4.

The Glenwood Springs Recreation Department is accepting registration for the peewee wrestling program, offered for third- to sixth-grade boys and girls.

The program runs from April 2-26 and the registration deadline is March 26. The Glenwood Springs High School wrestling coaching staff and team will be directing the program.
