Attacking the par-3 third hole with his 9-iron, Mark Barlau sank a hole-in-one at Glenwood Springs Golf Club on Saturday.The 145-yard shot was witnessed by Kirk Blaszyk, John Seidel and Rob Hawkins and took place during a Men’s Club two-man best ball event.

New Castle soccer tryouts are being held for players 11-14 years old.Sessions will be held at Kathryn Senor Elementary School on the following dates: U14 girls, May 22-23, 5:30 p.m.; U12 girls, May 30 and June 4, 4:30-6 p.m.; U12 boys, May 30, 6-7:30 p.m.; U14 boys, June 13, 9 a.m. to noon.Information: Lynsey, New Castle Recreation, 984-3352.

The Glenwood Springs Soccer Club will hold tryouts for fall competitive soccer on the following dates: U11 and U12, May 29, 5-6 p.m.; U13 and U14, May 29, 6:15-7:15 p.m.; U11 and U12 boys, May 30, 5-6 p.m.; U13 and U14 boys, May 30, 6:15-7:15 p.m.; U18 girls, June 1, 5:30-6:30 p.m.Makeup tryouts for all ages and genders are scheduled for 5:30-6:30 p.m. on June 4.The players’ age on Aug. 1 determines the age group in which they fall (e.g. 10-year-old plays U11). Rifle’s Deerfield Park will be the site of a girls fastpitch softball minicamp from 9 a.m. to noon May 29-30. The first day, from 9-11 a.m., will be a fielding session, while a hitting session, also from 9-11 a.m., is on the schedule for the second day. From 11 a.m. to noon each day, there will be pitching/catching sessions.The cost is $15 per session or $45 for all three. Information: Cindy Skinner, 625-5079.
