AREA SPORTS BRIEFSRam Classic golf tourney on tapThe Ram Classic, a benefit golf tournament for Roaring Fork High School athletics, is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 29, at Ironbridge Golf Club.

The four-person scramble begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and the tournament will also include a poker run.The cost of the tournament is $100 per person or $400 per team. BASALT – The first-ever Longhorn Stampede 5-kilometer run will be held Saturday, Aug. 28. Race-day registration is 7:45-8:15 a.m. at Basalt High School and the race begins at 8:30 a.m.The cost of the race is $15 and all entrants receive a T-shirt and entry in a prize drawing. Proceeds benefit the Basalt High School cross country team.Information: Ron Lund, 927-3524.



GSMS Football meetings begin MondayInformational meetings along with the issuing of equipment for 7th and 8th graders interested in playing football at Glenwood Springs Middle School starting Monday.Monday’s meeting is for eighth grade students starting at 3:30 p.m. The meeting for seventh graders takes place at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.Team practices begin on Wednesday. Practices through the end of the season in October are weeknights from 3:15-5:15 p.m.Information: Mitch Spencer, 384-5500.
