DRESDEN, Germany ” Bobby Julich wrapped up second place after the fifth and final stage of the Sachsen Tour on Sunday. The Glenwood Springs High School graduate finished behind Rabobank rider Joost Posthuma in the five-day cycling race that started Wednesday.

Julich, left off the Team CSC roster for the concurrent Tour de France, finished up at Sachsen 29 seconds behind Posthuma.

“The one good thing about the Sachsen race was that is has taken my mind off of missing the Tour de France,” Julich wrote in his Espn.com Tour de France diary on Sunday.



STEAMBOAT SPRINGS ” Glenwood Defiance teamed up with Vail to finish second at the Steamboat Springs-hosted Ski Town rugby tournament this weekend.

The combo squad beat up on Park City (17-0), Missoula (12-7) and Breckenridge (17-13) en route to a championship showdown with host Steamboat Springs. Steamboat edged Vail/Glenwood Springs by a count of 20-10 in the final.



Glenwood Defiance is scheduled to play host to Vail on Saturday.

RIFLE ” Roger Walters, notorious for his slick basketball coaching skills as Roaring Fork High’s boys frontman, showed off his golf game this weekend, winning the Rifle Creek Golf Course Men’s Club championship.

Walters shot a two-round, 36-hole total of 138, good for 6-under at the par-72 course. Doug Choate finished second, carding a 145, and Shawn Cruse posted a 149 for third.
