Karen Elsea received a special gift on her 60th birthday as she carded a hole-in-one on July 10 during the Sage Brush Tournament at Battlement Mesa Golf Course. Elsea used her three wood on the No. 13 hole, sending the ball 140 yards and into the cup.

The Glenwood Springs High School football coaches and players will be conducting a youth football camp Aug. 14-16 at Glenwood Springs Middle School.

It is open to players in grades three through seven and will be held each night from 5-6:30 p.m. The cost is $30, and all players will receive a T-shirt.

The 31st annual running of the Basalt Half Marathon is scheduled for Aug. 18.



The race will kick off at the base of Ruedi Dam and proceed 13.1 miles down the Frying Pan Road into Basalt. Buses transporting racers to the start line will depart Basalt Middle School at 7 a.m. for the 7:45 a.m. race.

Race-day registration and packet pickup will begin at 6:15 a.m. in front of the middle school. Online sign-up is available through http://www.active.com or runners can download an entry form at http://www.basaltriverdays.com.

Carbondale Middle School football for seventh- and eighth-graders begins Monday, Aug. 20. Eighth-graders begin at 8 a.m. and seventh-grader begin at 9:30 a.m. All players must have a sports physical.

Glenwood Spring High School boys soccer tryouts and practice runs from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Glenwood Park. Bring necessary equipment. Registration forms will be available at practice.
