Glenwood gymnasts shine in home meetEight members of the Glenwood Gymnastics Academy’s competitive team earned blue ribbons in a local eight-team meet held Saturday.In three separate meets, featuring level 4, 5 and 6 athletes, Glenwood’s Amy Allmon, Stephenie Neorth and Ashley Herrick captured blue ribbons in the Level 4 vault. Herrick and teammate Ashley Lent earned blues in the beam event.

Holly Brown received blue ribbons in the vault and floor exercise during the Level 5 session. Kayla Owens and Sophia Vidal won blue ribbons in the beam.In the 11- 12-year old, Level 6 vault Glenwood’s Hope Whitman took first place with a high score of 9.25 in the vault and also earned third place and fourth in the floor and all-around competitions.Catherine Chenault scored a first-place win in the 8 -10-year-old vault competition with a 9.50 mark.Weller lifts Eagles to win in first game with CMCFormer Glenwood Springs High School standout Derek Weller scored the lone goal in his first game with the Colorado Mountain College soccer team Saturday against Western State College.

The Eagles followed up the 1-0 shutout with another strong defensive effort on Sunday. Marcos Quezada scored to help CMC to a 1-1 tie against Laramie Community College.The Eagles are now 2-1-1 on the season and travel to Fort Lewis College Saturday before returning home for a Sunday game at Gates Soccer Park against Colorado Mines.Selsor paces GSMS harriersParticipating at the Lake County Invitational in Leadville, Katrina Selsor, running for the combined Glenwood Springs Middle/St. Stephen’s School cross country team was the girls overall winner, racing to a 10 minute, 42 second time in the 1.5 mile race.

Savanna Cochran was 40th overall in 13:24 and Sasha Rice came in at 15:19 for 65th place.In the boys race Jordan Chavez clocked a 25th place finish of 11:14. Teammate Kellen Fokler placed 28th in 11:22, David Gruenefeldt clocked in at 12:43, Pete Freyschlag finished the course in 13:10 and Chris Ayala ran in at 14:00.Youth soccer team earns winThe Glenwood Springs Wildfire U-11 girls soccer team opened its fall season with an 10-1 victory over a team from Rifle Saturday at Glenwood Park.Holly Brown led all scorers with three goals. Hope Whitman and Josi Pearson added a pair of scores each. Sara Davis, Sadey Stillman and Savanna Pearson each had a goal. Holly Brown led all scorers with three goals.
