Glenwood Springs High School graduate and University of Tennessee volleyball player Leah Hinkey picked up Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for her standout play at the American Volleyball Coaches Association Showcase in Omaha, Neb., over the weekend.The sophomore recorded 13 blocks in the Vols win over Utah, marking the fourth-highest single-match total and a career high. After both of Tennessee’s matches, Hinkey led the Vols with a 1.62 blocks per game average, also threw down 13 kills for third best on the team and scooped six digs for another career high.

Rifle Creek Golf Course will be holding its 2007 Labor Day Tournament Saturday and Sunday, with a Pro-Am taking over the course on Friday.The Pro-Am will begin with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start. The cost is $65 plus a cart.The entry fee for the regular tournament is $100 plus a cart. There will be flighted, gross and net play payoffs as well as special events Saturday night in the Columbine Restaurant, including a putting contest.Information: 635-1093.

KJEB (94.5 FM) radio in New Castle has added new programming in the form of Coal Ridge Titan football to its schedule. KJEB will broadcast all nine of the Titan’s varsity games beginning with the season opener Friday at 7 p.m. at Hayden.
