Glenwood Springs soccer players Fabian Tapia and Adam Sadowski were selected to the Class 4A Western Slope All-League. Glenwood’s Ben Fout as well as Rifle’s Garet Babcock and Evan Muldoon received honorable mention.Eagle Valley’s Cesar Castillo was named player of the year and Eagle Valley head coach Jason Rittmiller was honored as coach of the year.
The Glenwood Ice U14 boys soccer team was an offensive machine over the weekend, scoring 15 goals in two games, for two victories.The first win came in by way of a 5-0 rout of the Glenwood U13 Ice squad on Saturday. Jimmy Butcher started the game with two goals, one of which was assisted by Hunter Brown. Connor McGrath hooked up Alex Henderson for the next goal, which bounced off a U13 defender and into the net.Travis Grange and Andrew Mansfield scored the final two goals for the win.The U14 Ice turned on the scoring even more on Sunday against the Thunder Mountain Lightning of Grand Junction for a 10-1 win.Michael McGraw started the scoring with the first of his three goals for a hat trick. Mansfield and Travis Grange each scored two goals. Hunter Brown and Nate Kaup both scored one goal and Jake Bair scored on a penalty kick to finish the game with a huge win.Glenwood is now 810 and will play its final game against the Montrose Avalanche (81-0) in Montrose on Nov. 4 to determine the league champion.
St. John edged the Glenwood Springs seventh-grade boys basketball team 22-19 on Tuesday night in the opening game of the season for both teams. Grant Fegan led Glenwood in scoring with eight points. The Glenwood B team tied St. John 101-0 as Mats Rosen and Diego Lopez each scored four points. Both teams will play again in the Glenwood tournament on Saturday.
Roaring Fork High School will be holding its winter sports meeting for parents of winter sports athletes on Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the high school.Information: Jon Nell, 384-5753.
Glenwood Springs Middle School will host a showing of the Warren Miller extreme sports video “Playground” at 7 and 9:30 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 2) at the school in west Glenwood. Tickets are $15 and include a chance to win more than $2,000 in prizes. The screening also is a fundraiser for the GSMS Student Council and concessions will be available.
Anyone interested in being on the board, being a charter member, volunteer or player for the Colorado River Valley Little League this upcoming season should attend a meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Rifle Fire Station. This organization includes the communities of Rifle, Silt, New Castle, Parachute and Meeker. Involvement from all communities is encouraged, as the night will also include the annual board of directors elections, public meeting and a membership drive. Roan Plateau Soccer Association will be holding tryouts for the spring 2008 U18 boys state team on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. in Rifle at Deerfield Park’s Spevere Field. Spevere is the field next to the basketball courts. To qualify, a player must have a birthdate of Aug. 1, 1989, or later.Information: 876-0183.
