The Glenwood Springs Demons landed 32 student-athletes on the Colorado High School Activities Association All-State First Team. The Demons had to have a grade-point-average of 3.6 or higher to make the team.Sharaya Selsor, Katrina Selsor, Laura Young, Lyndsey Wesson, Melissa Buchanan, Michelle Stripp, Anna Wiltse, Meg Waibel and Kellen Fockler made the squad from Glenwood’s cross county team. Representatives from the football team were: Ben Ziemann, Connor Riley, Jordan Ciani, Nick Croissant, Matt Snyder, Drew Walters, Kennan Hartert, Dakota Stonehouse and Kevin Screen.The Demon soccer team had six who made the team, Gabe King, Kurt Hartmann, Jesse Pine, Javier Rodelas, Dillon Martin and Sam Kaup. Avery Denney, Kelsie Hert, Carly Stillman and Chelsea Vallario qualified for the academic team from Glenwood’s volleyball squad.Jason Whiting and D.J. Pelland were named to the team from Glenwood’s golf program, and Savanna Cochran and Raine Girardot were selected from the Demon cheerleading team.

On Thanksgiving morning, Glenwood Springs High School football alumni and current players, or anyone just looking to play some football, are invited to come play in the Turkey Bowl at Sayre Park.Come ready to play at 9 a.m.

The 21st annual Turkey Day 5K run/walk will be held at the Glenwood Springs Golf Course Thanksgiving morning on Nov. 22. Cost to enter the race is $5, with proceeds going to benefit the Carbondale Community School and to help cover medical expenses for the family of Paul Driskill. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the golf course clubhouse. The race starts at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done by calling Jim or Karen at 945-2026 for details. The race will be held regardless of weather.



Basalt Recreation is offering two indoor soccer camps in December. These camps are designed to help aspiring soccer players work on their technique, as well as learn new skills to make them a more rounded competitor. The first camp will be taught by Maurine Fitzpatrick on Dec. 3-6 from 3:20-4:15 p.m. and is for second, third and fourth grades. The second camp will be for fifth, sixth and seventh grades, will be held Dec. 17-21 from 5:30-7 p.m. and Basalt Longhorn MVP Cy Eaton will instruct it.
