The 16th annual Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at Sunlight Mountain Resort. This is an 8K race that winds through Babbish Gulch on Sunlight’s cross-country trails. Proceeds benefit the animal shelters of Garfield County.Participants may snowshoe, walk or run. The Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Department is still accepting registration forms for youth hoops at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. Local youth boys and girls in third through sixth grades are eligible to participate. Age is determined as of Dec. 31 of the current year. Girls and boys will learn the fundamentals of basketball through practice and games in a fun and engaging forum. Practices and games will be held Monday-Thursday, 4-8 p.m. at the Community Center starting Jan. 7. Registrations are being taken on a first-come-first-served basis. There will be a $5 late fee for registrations taken after Dec. 1. Fees for participation are as follows: Resident $45 and non-resident $48. Only athletic shoes are allowed for participation. The Sportswomen of Colorado is announcing that the online summer camps scholarship opportunity registration will be available starting Dec. 1, 2007 and end on April 15, 2008. This scholarship program is available to all girls in Colorado, age nine through eighth grade. Girls attending high school are not eligible. Over 100 scholarships will be available to be awarded on April 20, 2008. Winners will be notified after April 20. All eligible girls, their parents, guardians or teachers can apply by going to http://www.sportswomenofcolorado.org and clicking on Summer Camp Programs to sign up online or download a nomination form and fax or mail it to Summer Camp office. The Carbondale Recreation Department will be offering a developmental, recreational basketball program for boys and girls, grades three through six, beginning Jan. 7, 2008. The cost is $45. Registration forms can be picked up at the Carbondale Town Hall. The registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 14, 2007. Information: 704-4115.
The Carbondale Recreation Department is taking registrations for teams for the adult four-person volleyball league, which will begin play on Monday nights beginning Monday, Jan. 7, 2008. Cost per team is $200. Information: 704-4115.
