After completing the long 159-mile journey from Eagle to the Forty Mile River checkpoint Thursday night, Glenwood Springs musher Bill Pinkham held onto his 10th-place standing in the Yukon Quest Dog Sled race.

Pinkham checked into Forty Mile River for a short-night’s sleep on Thursday, then headed out early Friday morning with nine dogs heading for Dawson’s City. While this stage is shorter, it covers daunting terrain across the boarder into Canada.

Dawson’s City is the 10th checkpoint out of 17 in the race, which is 1,000 miles from Fairbanks, Ala. to Whitehorse, Yukon.

The Glenwood girls C basketball team hosted Battle Mountain on Thursday and won 44-13. The Demons increased their overall record to 13-3.

Rosana Delatorre had her best overall performance of the season and also scored a season-best six points. All of her points came from outside shots. Hannah McDermott had another strong scoring performance leading the team with 17 points while Kristy Moore added 10 points. Everyone on the roster scored in the contest.

Glenwood hosts Grand Valley on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., in the last game of the season.
