All sports require dedication, passion, love, courage, optimism and strength, which is exactly what Carly Apple, 10, and Faith Wood, 9, have brought to the sport of gymnastics. The virtues helped both KidzPlex Glenwood gymnasts qualify for the 2008 Colorado E.A.G.L.E.S. (Elementary Artistic Gymnastics League and Education System) State Championships June 14 at Dobson Ice Arena in Vail.

Apple and Wood are Level 3 gymnasts and made up two of the five gymnasts to qualify for the state meet this season. Apple finished with a 35.30 all-around score and Wood was not far behind with a 34.60 all-around score, and a third-place finish in the floor exercise with a score of 9.30.

“They did a great job this weekend,” E.A.G.L.E.S. head coach Ashley Kramer said of Apple and Wood. “I was really proud of them because they tried their hardest and they had a great time. … That’s what is most important.”
