The Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association’s second annual Grizzly Golf Tournament will be held at Battlement Mesa Golf Course on June 28 at 8:30 a.m.

The entry fee is $90 per person or $360 per team. Proceeds support the young players of the Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association, which serves families from Basalt to Rifle.

There are various awards throughout the event, including a longest drive and hole-in-one competition. Participants will also get the chance to enter a raffle to win an autographed Sidney Crosby Jersey or autographed Colorado Avalanche hockey stick.

Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Parachute and Carbondale athletes of all ages and skill levels are invited to compete against participants from across Colorado and a dozen other Western states this summer in Colorado Springs at the inaugural State Games of the West scheduled for July 24-27.

The invitation is open to both teams and individuals in the area, with medals awarded in the 31 sports offered. There is also an outstanding Opening Ceremony on July 24 at the Colorado Springs World Arena featuring 2002 Olympic speedskating champion Derek Parra and a female Olympian to be announced. There are 31 sports offered and athletes from 13 western states are eligible to participate.

It’s almost that time of year again. The Glenwood Open golf tournament, hosted by the Glenwood Springs Golf Club, is scheduled for July 11-13, beginning with a Pro-Am on July 11. The two-round Glenwood Open is reserved for the following two days.

The cost for the Pro-Am is $45 and it’s $80 to play in the Open.

The annual 3-on-3 Glenwood Hoop D’Ville Basketball Tournament is scheduled for June 28 at Sayre Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is an open tournament, open to ages 15-60.

There will be a dunk contest for all interested players in the tournament at 11 a.m.

The tournament benefits CARE animal shelter, YouthZone, the Angel Network and the Glenwood Springs High School basketball teams.

There will be prizes for teams that finish first through sixth, as well as more for the dunk contest.
