Jeb Savage took home top honors from Rifle Creek Golf Course’s Men’s Club championship over the weekend.Savage carded a 145 gross score for the two-round tourney to edge Cole Manuppella, Doug Choate and Ken Dunham, who finished in a three-way tie for second with 148s in championship-flight play.Taking top net score honors from the championship flight was Rick Peterson, who shot a 131. David Small (135) and Pat Burwell (137) were next on the leaderboard.Other gross-score flight winners included John Savage (first flight, 157), Stan Wailes and Mike Smith (second, 169) and Shawn Brainard (third, 179).Other net-score flight winners were Dale Cruse (first flight, 134), Chris Manera (second, 134) and Bob Hawkins (third, 131).
The Glenwood Springs High School boys golf team is holding an informational meeting for athletes interested in joining the squad at 7 p.m. tonight at Glenwood Springs Golf Club. Competition and practice schedules, as well CHSAA paperwork, will be passed out at the meeting.If interested in joining the team but unable to make the meeting, contact coach Bryan Whiting at 384-5598.
Students interested in participating in cross country at Rifle High School this fall should show up at the school’s track Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to meet with coach Jerry Shafer and find out about the team.
Roaring Fork High School is hosting a parent/athlete meeting Thursday night at 6 p.m. for any RFHS students interested in playing boys golf this fall. Information: Larry Williams, 366-6179.
Rifle Mountain Park is once again playing host to the Aug. 2 Cheatin’ Woodchuck Chase 5-mile run and 2.3-mile fun run/ walk. The race starts at 9 a.m., with a bus leaving for the starting line from the Rifle Fish Hatchery at 8:10 a.m. Race-day registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at Rifle Mountain Park. Registration is $20. Glenwood Springs Golf Club is accepting registrations for the Soda Pop Open, a boys and girls youth tournament scheduled for Aug. 4. To register or for more information, call GSGC at 945-7086.
The Glenwood Springs Soccer Club and United Soccer Coaches will host a soccer camp Aug. 4-8 for players 5-13 years old. The camp will be held at Glenwood Park soccer field from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Rifle High School is holding a softball camp Aug. 4-8 at Deerfield Park in Rifle for players entering the seventh through 12th grade.Register before July 30 at the regular rate of $60 or pay $75 after July 30.
