A sports brief in Tuesday’s Post Independent erroneously reported that Glenwood Springs resident Matthew Ehlers won powerlifting gold medals in both the 100- and 125-kilogram events at the States Games of the West. He took first in only the men’s open class 100-kilogram division. Matt’s brother, Wes Ehlers, won gold in the 125-kilogram bench-only division.
Students interested in participating in cross country at Rifle High School this fall should show up at the school’s track tonight at 7:30 p.m. to meet with coach Jerry Shafer and find out about the team.
Rifle High School is holding a meeting for all athletes and their parents Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Re-2 district office. New policies and guidelines will be presented that are mandatory for all participants and their parents.

Roaring Fork High School is hosting a parent/athlete meeting Thursday night at 6 p.m. for any RFHS students interested in playing boys golf this fall.

Glenwood Springs Golf Club is accepting registrations for the Soda Pop Open, a youth tournament scheduled for Aug. 4.

The Glenwood Springs Soccer Club and United Soccer Coaches will host a soccer camp Aug. 4-8 for players 5 to 13 years old. The camp will be held at Glenwood Park soccer field from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The 17th annual Realtor Invitational Scholarship fundraiser golf tournament is slated for Aug. 1 at Battlement Mesa Golf Course.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Every year, the Glenwood Springs Association of Realtors Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Garfield County, and all proceeds from the tournament go toward that fund.
The cost is $400 for a four-person team and includes continental breakfast, an awards lunch, range balls, beverages on the course and 18 holes of golf plus a cart.

Rifle Mountain Park is once again playing host to the Aug. 2 Cheatin’ Woodchuck Chase 5-mile run and 2.3-mile fun run/walk.
The race starts at 9 a.m., with a bus leaving for the starting line from the Rifle Fish Hatchery at 8:10 a.m. Race-day registration begins at 7:15 a.m. at Rifle Mountain Park.
Registration costs $15 before July 25 and $20 after.
