The Rifle Creek Golf Course Senior Championship is slated for Aug. 9-10.

Tee-time starts open play Saturday at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. kicks off Sunday play. This is a flighted tournament open to men and women.

Openings remain. Registration is $100 and includes a cart. Call 625-1093 to sign up.



Coal Ridge will be hosting an all-sports parent night Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. in the school’s main gym. Covered will be the new athletic code of conduct policies from 7 to 7:30 p.m. and, from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m., the fall sports parents will meet with fall coaches to review expectations for the season.

Coal Ridge High School’s fall sports practices begin Monday, Aug. 11. That day’s schedule, by sport, is as follows: football players report at 3:30 p.m. for a 4-8 p.m. practice; volleyball, 4-8 p.m.; cross country, 7-8 a.m.; boys soccer, 6-8 a.m. and 8-9 p.m.; cheer, 5-7 p.m.



On Tuesday, all teams will attend a morning session that finishes by 10 a.m. Practice times for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be the same as Monday. Coaches will let teams know on Monday if there will be practice on Saturday.

Volleyball is scheduled to practice Aug. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and then from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Boys soccer 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the middle school starting Aug. 11 in 5:30 to 7 p.m. at River Valley Ranch soccer field.

The football team will be holding an organizational meeting at Monday 7:30 a.m. at the high school. Physicals will be collected.

On Aug. 13, RFHS is hosting a meet-the-coaches night at 7 p.m. for the soccer, volleyball, golf and football programs. The meeting will take place at the school.

Every RFHS athlete needs to have a physical completed before he or she participates.

The Glenwood Springs High School coaching staff and Demon seniors are hosting an Aug. 12-14 football camp for players entering the third through seventh grades.

The non-contact camp, which centers on skills instruction, runs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. daily and costs $30. Campers are welcome to sign up on the first day of camp, starting at 4 p.m.

The 32nd annual Basalt Half Marathon is slated for Aug. 16. Race-day registration will take place at the Basalt Middle School beginning at 6:15 am.

Runners will be bused to the start line at the base of Ruedi Dam at 7 a.m. sharp. The race is set to start at 7:45 am. Pre-registration is available through active.com or at Mason and Morse in Basalt.

The annual Glenwood Springs Elks Lodge soccer shoot, which consists of skills contests, is Aug. 16 at Two Rivers Park. The event, which begins with registration at 8:30 a.m., is open to boys and girls 7 to 13 years old and is separated into four age divisions. Winners advance to district competition in September.

Carbondale Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade football will begin practice at 3 p.m. on Aug. 18. Equipment checkout will be Aug. 13.

The eighth-grade team will practice the remainder of the week starting Aug. 19 from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and the seventh-grade team will practice from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
