Glenwood Springs Middle School will begin its fall sports season today.Eighth-grade girls need to report, ready to practice, at 3 p.m., while seventh-grade girls will report at 3:15 p.m. Eighth-grade football players will receive their gear from 3-4 p.m. and seventh-grade players will get their gear from 4-5 p.m.Any student interested in playing middle school volleyball or football must have a current physical and a $30 athletic fee, and parents and players need to read and sign the athletic handbook before students are allowed to practice. These forms can be picked up from the middle school Thursday or Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.Players can join teams after Monday; however, late starts can impact how many games athletes are eligible to play in.
The 2008 Ram Classic golf tournament, a benefit for Roaring Fork High School athletics, is Sept. 26 at River Valley Ranch Golf Club. The 18-hole scramble tournament begins with a shotgun start and is $125 per person or $500 per team (individuals and pairs will be matched to form teams). Sponsorship opportunities are available. El Jebowl in El Jebel is taking league sign-ups for the fall. The Longhorn Stampede 5K is set for Aug. 23 at 8:30 a.m. Race-day registration for the annual Basalt High School cross-country team fundraiser will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Basalt High School.
