Cooper Cornelius, just 9 years old, hit a hole-in-one at Glenwood Springs Golf Club on Aug. 11. The youngster swung a 5-iron in covering 115 yards with his tee shot.

Cooper’s dad, Colt, had just missed a hole-in-one by inches a minute prior.

“Coop decided to upstage his dad by sinking the shot,” Colt joked.

New Castle Recreation is looking for soccer officials for the 2008 fall soccer season. The pay rate is $35 per game.

Three Rivers Youth Football still has team player openings for its Glenwood youth teams (third- through sixth-graders), which begin their games after Labor Day.

The Longhorn Stampede 5K is set for Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Race-day registration for the annual Basalt High School cross-country team fundraiser will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Basalt High School.

Age-group award presentations and a prize drawing will take place following the race.

Defiance Rugby Club is celebrating its 15th anniversary with Saturday’s Defiance Old Boys Game at Glenwood Park. The exhibition match, which starts at 1 p.m., pits retired Defiance players against the current roster.

The Tri-Glenwood Triathlon is looking for volunteers for a number of jobs, most of which take place on race day, Sept. 7. Volunteers receive a T-shirt and a ticket to the post-race picnic.
