A fivesome anchored by pro Mike Mendelson took top honors on Friday at Rifle Creek Golf Course’s Labor Day Pro-Am.Mendelson teamed up with Jeff Hauer, Chris Christensen, Steve Stanek and Keith Forney on a 121 to win out at the course’s annual Labor Day affair in the first of three days of golfing.Pro Tom Carricato led his team of Clint Hostettler, Casey Bates, Jeremy Shartzer and Mark Fergen to second place with a 122.Behind those top two groups was a three-team tie for third at 123. Pro Barry Milstead’s team of Roger Walters, Mark Cowan, Harold Clay and Kurt Clay was among the logjam, as was pro Tad Holloway’s group of Mike Whitt, John Savage, Shawn Brainard and Mich Manuppella and pro Doug Rohrbaugh’s bunch of Marc Caldwell, Eric Foerster, Jeff Knable and Jim Fahrenholtz.Rohrbaugh, Holloway and Greg Gortsema finished tops in the pro standings, each carding 64s. Tom Carricato shot a 67 and Mike Mendelson a 68 to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.Saturday and Sunday were reserved for the amateur play portion of Rifle’s Labor Day tourney.

The Glenwood Springs Youth Hockey Association (GSYHA) is hosting a registration session for the 2008-09 hockey season at the Glenwood Springs Community Center on Sept. 7 from 4-6 p.m. A signed Sidney Crosby jersey will be awarded to one lucky raffle winner. The GSYHA program, which features both recreational and competitive play options, is open to youths 5-18 years old in the vicinity of the Roaring Fork Valley. Information:
