The New Castle Pride advanced boys soccer team placed second last weekend at the Fire Classic soccer tournament in Grand Junction.

New Castle scored wins over Fire FC Premier (2-1), the Basalt Wildcats (5-2) and Durango United (1-0).

The Montrose Avalanche beat the Pride in the championship game 3-0.



It was a strong showing for the New Castle team made up of Brody Babcock, Gavan Brouilette, Joseph Capraro, Ramon Chairez, Kenny Dardynski, Cristian Delgadillo, Alexis Dominguez, Ben Dunn, Jared Gambrel, Javier Garcia, Javier Gonzalez, Marco Gutierrez, Jorge Hernandez, Jovany Mendez, and Keenan Skelly.

The team resumes Western Slope State League action Saturday in New Castle against Basalt 14D Blue at 11:30 a.m. at the VIX Ranch Park.



Glenwood Springs High School alumni are invited to join the Demon football players on their homecoming float on Friday.

Meet at GSHS at 2:30 p.m. to reconnect and hop on the float. Children of alumni are also invited to come along. Wear jerseys or school colors.

The Glenwood Springs Basketball Officials Association is looking for men and women to officiate high school basketball for the upcoming hoops season. Officials are compensated for officiating and their travel time.

Classes are at Glenwood Springs High School, room 4104, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evenings until Nov. 3.
