Glenwood Springs Soccer Club is holding tryouts for advanced teams on the following days: U11-14 boys, Nov. 3, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Gates Soccer Complex; U15-18 boys, Nov. 3, 6-7:30 p.m. at Gates; U11-12 girls, Nov. 4, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Glenwood Park; makeup night, Nov. 10, 5-6 p.m. at Glenwood Park.To be considered for an advanced team for the spring season, players are required to attend one tryout session. This includes any person who did not play soccer during the fall season and all players who played on a developmental team this season. Glenwood Springs Recreation Department is offering after-school hoops for third-, fourth- and fifth-grade girls and boys. Learn the fundamentals of basketball in a fun atmosphere. The Glenwood Springs Recreation Department will be offering Adrenaline Action Activities for first-, second- and third-grade children. Kids will have the opportunity to explore traditional and nontraditional games that are designed to get their adrenaline pumping. The Glenwood Springs Basketball Officials Association is looking for men and women to officiate high school basketball for the upcoming hoops season. Roan Plateau Soccer is looking for coaches for its spring U18 boys team. The positions are volunteer posts and the season runs from March through late May/early June. Practices are held three days per week and games are on Saturdays, with an occasional Sunday thrown in. The team has been playing in the state league, but the decision to play in the state league or the Western Slope League will be decided by the coaches, players, parents and club directors.Information: (970) 876-0183.
Ski and snowboard racers wanting to experience alpine racing and freestyle competition are invited to register for the Sunlight Ski Team, the Buddy Werner program or the Sunlight Freestyle Team.Registration is under way, and discounts for early sign-ups are given to those registering before Dec. 1.Sunlight Ski Team is composed of advanced skiers 7-18 years old who are accomplished at their sport and ready to challenge themselves through developing new skills in competitive, Olympic-quality racing. The team’s dedicated members spend all their weekends and holidays training, traveling and competing in USSA-sanctioned races. Racers train weekends and after school every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at Sunlight Mountain.Buddy Werner racers are recreational skiers and snowboarders 7-12 years old who like to rip it up one day a week. Gather at Sunlight Mountain each Saturday beginning on Jan. 3. Racers are on the hill from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. with an adult volunteer coach. Skiers and snowboarders are invited to participate in as many as 10 days of skiing and racing this season. Racers learn the importance of skiing safely, under control at all times, and skiing with appointed coaches and teams.Sunlight Freestyle members are advanced freestylers who meet for a full day on Saturdays throughout the season and for after-school sessions after Christmas. These snowboarders and skiers compete at local events and tear up Sunlight’s freestyle park, rails and jumps.
