Elks Hoop Shoot contest slated Jan. 8The annual Elks Lodge youth basketball Hoops Shoot contest for boys and girls ages 8-13 will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Glenwood Community Center.Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. for ages 8-9, followed by the other age groups. Approximate shootout times are 1 p.m. (8-9 years), 1:45 p.m. (10-11) and 2:30 p.m. (12-13). All contestants must bring a birth certificate, and basketball or athletic shoes are required.Separate divisions for boys and girls include ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 as of April 1, 2005. Participants get a total of 25 free throws. Trophies will be awarded to the top three scores in each division. Boys in the 8-9 division and all girls use a smaller girls basketball. Boys and girls in the 8-9 division also have the option of shooting from a line four feet inside the regulation free-throw line. Winners in each division advance to the district competition in Rangely on Jan. 22. Information: George Dana, 928-8565. 3-on-3 basketball tournament scheduledRifle Recreation will hold a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for fifth- through eighth-grade boys and girls on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 8-9, at Rifle High School. Each division is limited to eight teams and each team can carry a maximum of four players. The fee is $60 per team, and the registration deadline is Jan. 5.Information: http://www.rifleco.org; 625-2151.WCBA baseball teams to hold meetingsFor any interested players or coaches, WCBA Competitive Baseball Teams will hold an informational meeting for 13- and 14-year-old teams at 7 p.m. tonight at Rifle City Hall.Carbondale men’s hoops league accepting registrationThe Carbondale Basketball League is accepting registration for the upcoming winter season. The league begins Jan. 8 and runs through March 20. Games will be held from 5-10 p.m. Sundays. The cost is $385 per team, and rosters can be obtained at the Carbondale Recreation Department or by calling Woodsie at 704-4116.The registration deadline is Dec. 17, and there is a 10-team limit. There will be a mandatory captains meeting at Town Hall on Jan. 5. The league is also looking for referees.Adult open gym basketball dates setThe Carbondale Recreation Department will be conducting adult pickup basketball games at the Carbondale Middle School gym from 7-9 p.m. Thursday nights. Under bluebird skies, fans flocked to the X Games Aspen venue at the base of Buttermilk. After a year without fans, thousands returned and were treated to lots of action and great weather.
