CARBONDALE, Colorado ” The Carbondale Recreation Department is taking registrations for its summer youth baseball and softball leagues.
Age groups for baseball are 7-8 (coach pitch), 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15. The age groups for softball are 8-10, 11-12 and 13-15. The cost for coach pitch is $75. It’s $80 for baseball and softball. The registration deadline is May 1.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” A showcase of women’s soccer will feature the Colorado Force W-League club from Fort Collins playing in an exhibition game at Gates Soccer park on June 5.

The Force will be playing against the newly organized Colorado Mountain United Soccer Club, which will field players from area high schools and clubs that have been recommended by their coaches as having the ability to play at a high level, according to the club’s organizer and former Colorado Mountain College Soccer Coach Steve White.
Coaches can nominate a player to the select team by contacting CMUSC at, email@example.com. Include information about the nominated player.
The exhibition game is the start to the three-day Emily Johnson Play It Forward soccer tournament. Kickoff for the game is at 7 p.m. and $5 donations will be accepted at the gate.

RIFLE, Colorado ” The first annual Duke Earl Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament will be held with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on April 19. The tournament is poker style with a 7 a.m. check-in. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf and lunch.
Duke Earl was the Rifle High School golf coach and the assistant golf pro at Rifle Creek Golf Course for the last several years. A silent auction will be held before and after rounds. Proceeds will go to the scholarship fund and the Duke Earl family.

No handicaps are required, and no golfing ability is required.
For those who do not wish to golf but would like to participate, there will be a nominal fee for lunch, which will be served approximately at 1:30 p.m. Call the number above for reservations.
GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” The third annual High Skills Girls Basketball Camp will be held June 8-11 at the Glenwood Middle School Gymnasium. The camp is open to all girls in the seventh through 12th grades, based on the 2009-2010 school year. Camp will run each evening from 6-8:15 p.m.
The camp will stress both offensive and defensive basketball fundamentals, while allowing ample scrimmage time each evening for player development. A minimum of four qualified coaches will be in attendance nightly to provide quality individual and small-group instruction.
At camp on June 10 will be former Mesa State men’s basketball coach Doug Schakel. Schakel led the Maverick men’s program for 25 years and ranks fourth among Colorado college basketball coaches in career wins. Schakel will present his popular Shot Doctor clinic to campers.
The June 11 session will feature Greeley West boys basketball coach Bill Whitehead, who will demonstrate some of his favorite offensive improvement drills.

CARBONDALE, Colorado ” Registration is now open for the 2009 season of the Team Mindful Sports (TMS) triathlon training program. Training will begin in mid-April and continue through the season-ending triathlon competitions in October and/or November.
TMS is a Carbondale-based group of experienced coaches who are helping local athletes improve their swimming, running and cycling skills. Coaches work closely with each athlete to create custom training programs while conducting weekly group training sessions in each discipline.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Glenwood Springs Soccer Club and United Soccer Coaches will offer an advanced skills clinic at Glenwood Park soccer field from 1-4 p.m. on April 19.
Marley Wilson and Leigh Davies, coaches from the United Kingdom, will instruct the clinic, which is structured for players 8 to 15 years old. The cost is $35 and registration is online at http://www.glenwoodsoccer.org/clinics.
