Kirk Blaszyk and Mark Barlau paired up to win Saturday and Sunday’s 2009 two-man, best bell tournament at Glenwood Springs Golf Club. The duo carded a gross score of 130 in the two-round competition, finishing a stroke ahead of second-place tandem Doug Choate and Joe Elliot.
Mark Lillis and Kevin Sweeney (137) finished third and Ted Miernicki and Don Van Devander (138) nabbed fourth in the gross-score standings.
Jim Otto and Danny Scharo tied Robert Griffin and Evan Evans for the net-score crown. Each pairing shot a 118. Delwyn Fletcher and Dave Kotz took third with a 119 and Joe Luetke and Richy Luetke were fourth with a 120.
The annual Rifle High School/Rocky Mountain Baseball Camp, put on by Rifle High School baseball coach Troy Phillips, his coaching staff and players, will be held May 26-29 from 8-10:30 a.m. each day at Deerfield Park’s Cooper Field in Rifle.
The camp is for players 8 to 14 years old and costs $50. Camp fliers are available at the Rifle Recreation Department. Contact Phillips at 625-5376 for more information.
The second annual Run For Their Lives 5K run/walk is slated for June 6 at 8:30 a.m. Registration begins on race day at 7:15 a.m. at Stoney Ridge ball field, behind the old Roy Moore Elementary School in Silt. The cost for the race is $25 and proceeds benefit the Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation, which helps to rehabilitate and release wild animals.

The Thunder River 5K Run/Walk, which benefits the Thunder River Theatre Company’s children’s programs, is scheduled for June 6 at 8 a.m. in downtown Carbondale. Register at Independence Run and Hike (995 Cowen Center Drive, Carbondale).
Awards will be given by age group. There will also be a costume category. Also featured will be a big raffle.

The Jack Smith Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for June 7, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The event is a two-person scramble at Rifle Creek Golf Course, with a $100 entry fee per team. All proceeds go to the Jack Smith Scholarship Fund at Rifle High School.
Carts are extra, and lunch will be included.
There will be two flights ” competitive and leisure. There will be prizes for gross and net.
